“You have to know your enemy to fight it”

This was my original motivation for studying Economics in the radical period of young idealism. I am still idealistic but not without realism. The currently ongoing crisis of capital markets is having its spillovers in real economy. And I’m afraid we have seen only the start of it yet. However, I follow the dialogue of economic ideologies with academic interest. Municipal election together with the global situation seem to have surfaced primitive reaction at both extremes. I refuse to believe this is the crisis of capitalism itself, cause I cannot think of a viable alternative. There is a demand for socially and environmentally responsible capitalism surfacing stronger than ever. Demands on policy making are urging. As long as democracy prevails, policy-makers have power and they have to use it responsibly.
